It’s Bonus Week For NFL Fans

It’s Bonus Week For NFL Fans

This week for Monday Night Football (MNF), we get a double-header treat thanks again to the coronavirus. The Pittsburgh Steelers were supposed to have played tonight’s game last week on MNF.  But no matter, it’s Monday again and we have two pretty good games lined up to watch tonight as the NFL Week 13 moves forward.  There’s also an extra bonus game this week to make football fans even happier.

The Steelers Remain Undefeated

The undefeated Steelers will host a 4-7 Washington Football Team that has started to show some signs of life in the second half of the season after sleep walking through the first half.  Perhaps if they could figure out a name for the football team it would help them to center a little better.

Washington has Ron Rivera coaching them this year.  Given the chance and a few quality players, Rivera will make a football team out of these guys and they will be back in playoff contention pretty soon.

Meanwhile, the Steelers are 11-0 and remain the only undefeated team in the entire NFL.  But if feels a little weird somehow. Guard David DeCastro said in a post-game interview last week, “I know we’re 11-0, but I think things in the day and age, you don’t really look too far ahead or behind.  You’re just kind of stuck in the moment.”

Actually, that’s not a bad place to be right now.  Rivera played linebacker on the 1985 Chicago Bears team that won its first 12 games on the way to a Super Bowl and then when he took over as head coach of the Carolina Panthers, who won their first 14 games.  So, Rivera has been there and done that.

Rivera told reporters, last week, “One thing we did try to do is we tried to avoid the conversation of going undefeated.  When you start getting ahead and start thinking about the next one and even the next one after that, now you’re put yourself in a tough spot.”

When the Steelers played the Ravens last week, they were not at their best.  Analysts called them flat, but it was worse than that. Head Coach Mike Tomlin called them the “junior varsity” after the game even though they managed to come out on top of Baltimore by a final score of 19-14.

Pittsburgh goes into the game with Washington as 6.5-point favorites with the Over/Under set at 43.5.

The Niners Have A New Home

The late game on Monday Night Football will feature the 8-3 Buffalo Bills going to visit the 5-6 San Francisco 49ers.  In what is another twist in the season, this game will be played at the 49ers new temporary home at State Farm Stadium, in Glendale, Arizona due to the COVID-19 restrictions now in place at Levi’s Stadium.

So, they are playing on a neutral field and the 5-6 49ers are one-point favorites over the 8-3 Bills.   It looks like somebody knows something the rest of us don’t.  The Bills lost in Arizona a couple of weeks ago in spectacular fashion when Kyler Murray threw a long ‘Hail Mary’ pass to DeAndre Hopkins for a touchdown and a 2-point victory for the Cardinals.

Bonus Football In The NFL

As an extra special bonus this week, we get a Tuesday Night Football game, as well, when the 3-8 Dallas Cowboys travel up to Baltimore to take on the 6-5 Ravens as 9-point underdogs. The Over/Under is set at 45 and the game will be played at M&T Bank Stadium, where it is likely to be cold and windy at game time.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is back from IR and expected to start on Tuesday against the Cowboys who are in desperate need of a victory to shore up what’s left of their season. So far, owner Jerry Jones has not been too happy with the Cowboys’ performances this year and probably won’t be after tomorrow’s game, either.
