NFL Week 6 Preview: Panthers Pounce Across Pond?

NFL Week 6 Preview: Panthers Pounce Across Pond?

There are going to be a couple of blowouts this weekend when NFL teams take to the field for Week 6 games.  Desperation is going to lead to errors, which is going to lead to points for opponents and even more frustration for the losers.  The time for putting teams in order is over and the race toward the Super Bowl is now officially beginning to pick up.

The Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers jumped across the pond to go head to head in London.  At 3-2, thanks almost exclusively to quarterback Kyle Allen, the Panthers are looking stronger than they did when the season first got underway and will continue to prove themselves against the 2-3 Bucs.  The Tampa Bay team certainly isn’t out of the running yet, but the Panthers are making up for lost time and aren’t going to let something like London fog get in their way.  It will most likely be another close game, but the Carolina squad should be able to pull it off, especially with the Bucs being down two offensive-line starters.

The Houston Texans won’t find things very easy when they go up against the Kansas City Chiefs on the road.  This could be a huge passing game for the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is having a strong season.  He’ll definitely have to keep it up, seeing as how the team’s defense hasn’t been as hot.  It has allowed over 155 rushing yards a game so far this season, the third worst in the league, and will need to tighten things up on Sunday.

There’s no doubt defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who just joined the team earlier this year, will have been working overtime to get his guys prepared this week, and it will most likely pay off.  The Chiefs are expected to walk away with the win, extending their record to 5-1 and leaving the Texans at 3-3 on the season.

Last week, the defenses for both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings took to the turf with everything they had.  Hopefully, they have recuperated that spent energy ahead of Sunday’s game, as they both are going to seriously want to take the victory.  With both teams sitting at 3-2, this is going to be a key game, but the Vikings will most likely be slightly more prepared.  The Eagles may have not had to play as hard last week against the New York Jets, but the team isn’t going to be up to the task on Sunday and will ultimately fall at the feet of the Vikings.

Another key game for two teams is the matchup between the New Orleans Saints and the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Teddy Bridgewater will still be in for the injured Drew Brees grabbing the snaps for the Saints and his work with Alvin Kamara has been spectacular the past several games, which is why the team is now 4-1.  The Jags are looking for a break and hope to find it with Leonard Fournette.  If he’s able to get free, he could be vital to putting his team ahead and securing the victory.  The game should come down to the wire, but the Saints will prevail in the end.

The San Francisco 49ers are likely to go all the way this year.  They sit at 4-0 on the season and will extend that lead when they take on the 3-2 LA Rams on Sunday.  With the top rushing game in the NFL, the 49ers have found their rhythm and, against the 15th-ranked Rams defense, are going to move ahead.

There are several other games on tap for Sunday and they’ll be as exciting as they’re expected to be – which is another way of saying not very exciting.  It would be interesting if the New York Jets could pull off its first victory of the season, especially against the Dallas Cowboys, but that isn’t very likely.
