NFL Week 6 Shocker: Browns Favored … And Will Cover

It’s time for some unexpected football action as the NFL heads into Week 6.  Some games will play out just as everyone may have imagined, but there are a couple that are going to prove to be riveting, starting with the Cleveland Browns and their game against the Seattle Seahawks.  Looking ahead at what’s about to happen this week, it’s time to get ready for some hardcore finishes.

The Browns are favored to win against the Seahawks.  No one saw this coming, but they have opened as the 2.5-point favorite against several key points.  If the spread doesn’t change, the Browns will find themselves in only their second game in four years that they have been favored to beat a team with a winning record – the last time was against the LA Chargers in 2015, also in Week 6.  However, that prediction didn’t come true, as the Browns fell 38-14.

Don’t expect anything surprising to come out of the New York Giants this Thursday.  The New England Patriots, with their 5-0 record, are -16.5 for the win and this won’t change in two days.  As long as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick stay in sync, as they have been doing for the past several years, the Pats are going to continue to dominate.  It doesn’t hurt that the Giants are 2-3 on the season, either.

As the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers prepare to wow the London crowd, the opening line is on the Panthers at -1.5.  The replacement quarterback for Cam Newton, Kyle Allen, has been more than impressive the past couple of games and is going to keep it up, despite the fact that the Bucs have two consecutive wins over the Panthers.  The Oakland raiders may have surprised the Chicago Bears in London on Sunday, but don’t expect the same out of the Bucs.

The LA Rams are -4 against the San Francisco 49ers, which may be a shock to some.  The 49ers have a 4-0 record and are coming off a 31-3 win against the Cleveland Browns, but the Rams have a secret.  The 49ers are 2-10 against divisional opponents since Kyle Shanahan joined the squad as its head coach in 2017.  The Rams, on the other hand, are 10-3 against division teams under Sean McVay in the same period.

The Baltimore Ravens, -10, are going to walk all over the 0-5 Cincinnati Bengals.  This comes in spite of the fact that the team has a winning record against the Ravens, 7-3, but this ultimately won’t prove much help based on the team’s current performance.  At this point, there isn’t much to be said for the winless team, except better luck next year.

There are also several matchups that could go either way.  The New Orleans Saints have been looking good under Teddy Bridgewater, filling in for Drew Brees, and this should continue against the Jacksonville Jaguars.  Coming off a poor performance last week, the Dallas Cowboys will meet the New York Jets this week, which may be enough to give the team a little motivation.  However, oddsmakers haven’t been able to make the call.
