MLB has a full schedule of games on the slate for Tuesday. Here’s how some of the important matchups stack up in tonight’s action on the diamond:
Guardians Open Series against Twins
The Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins will begin their second season series in a three-game set starting tonight at Target Field in Minneapolis. This time around, the Twins are the leaders of the AL Central and have a slim one-game lead over the Guardians, who have been making a move up the standings and are now challenging them for first place.
Cleveland has now won 15 of its last 19 games and their last six series, the most recent being against the Los Angeles Dodgers. They took two of three from the NL West leaders and are now 34-28 on the season. Minnesota is 38-30 and is 9-11 in their last 20 games as they begin a six-game homestand. They recently lost two of three to the Arizona Diamondbacks after winning two games against the Seattle Mariners on the road to take that series.
Tonight’s pitching matchup features Joe Ryan for the Twins. He is 5-3 with a 2.81 ERA and will be facing Aaron Civale, who just came off the disabled list for the Guardians. He’s 3-3 with a 7.84 ERA in seven starts.
Minnesota will win at home to take the series’ first game.
Mets Face Astros In Battle Of Division Leaders
The New York Mets and Houston Astros will play a two-game series starting tonight at Minute Maid Park. The Mets lead the NL East and are currently trying to hold off the Atlanta Braves, who have now moved to within 5.5 games of them in the division. Houston is first in the AL Central and leads by ten games in the standings.
The Mets have now won four of their last five games and their previous three series matchups, most recently taking three of four games from the Miami Marlins. They also have series wins over the Brewers and Angels in the last two weeks. The Astros have won six of the previous eight games and took two of three against the Chicago White Sox in their last series.
Trevor Williams will put his 1-3 record on the line tonight for the Mets against Jose Urquidy, who is 5-3 with a 4.99 ERA this season for the Astros.
The Mets take the victory in tonight’s matchup to start their road trip.
Blue Jays Seek Revenge Versus White Sox
The Toronto Blue Jays and Chicago White Sox will clash in the second game of their three-game series tonight at Guaranteed Rate Field. Chicago won last night’s matchup 8-7, giving them their first win against the Blue Jays after they were swept earlier this season. Toronto is 12 games behind the Yankees in the AL East, while the White Sox are third in the AL Central and are just 4.5 games behind the Twins for the division lead.
Toronto just lost two of three to the Yankees before this series after splitting four games with the Baltimore Orioles, while Chicago is coming off a series loss to the Astros after sweeping the Detroit Tigers on the road in their previous series.
Kevin Gausman is 5-6 with a 3.21 ERA and will get the start tonight for the Blue Jays, and Dylan Cease brings his 5-3 record and 2.91 ERA to the mound for the White Sox.
Chicago will win its second straight over the Blue Jays in another close game.
