The NFL’s Flag Football Pro Bowl Games Are A Hit – Literally

Someone needs to teach LA Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey the meaning of flag football. As the NFL tested the format in the Pro Bowl Games, he apparently didn’t know, and leveled Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill. Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt in the collision. The rest of the action went off without a hitch.

This week, players participated in skills challenges, long-drive competitions, and dodgeball matches. The scores were tallied throughout the events and added to the final scores of the three flag football games combined. After the 2022 Pro Bowl, the NFL gave the event a complete makeover to make the weekend more entertaining and exciting.

Manning Brothers Face Off

The NFC flag football team was coached by Eli Manning, with his brother Peyton on the sidelines for the AFC. The three games were played on a 50-yard field, with 10-yard end zones and teams needing to make it to midfield to pick up a first down.

Teams played each game with 10-minute halves and two timeouts per squad. Touchdowns were worth six points, with the option of going for a one-point conversion from the 5-yard line or two points from the ten-yard line.

NFC Takes Game 1

Team NFC entered the first flag football game leading the AFC 13-12. Team NFC fought to a 33-27 victory in Game 1, thanks to Geno Smith, who served as quarterback for the entire game.

After Tyler Huntley of Team AFC opened the scoring with a touchdown pass to his Ravens teammate Mark Andrews, Smith answered back quickly with a touchdown and 1-point conversion to Kittle.

Later in the game, Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb sealed the win for Team NFC with a touchdown catch in the final seconds. Though the AFC took the lead at the start of the game, the NFC controlled the momentum during the entire contest.

AFC Comes Back In Game 2

In Game 2, the NFC had a chance to take their second consecutive win. However, despite touchdowns from Vikings teammates Irv Smith Jr. and Kyle Rudolph, they fell 18-13 to the AFC.

Team NFC put on a defensive show for the fans at Allegiant Stadium. Packers CB Jaire Alexander intercepted Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown.

On the other side, Stefon Diggs scored a 45-yard touchdown from Lawrence. Raiders WR Davante Adams and Titans RB Derrick Henry also added points for the AFC. Despite the effort, the NFC came up short, leaving Game 3 to decide the 2023 Pro Bowl Games winner.

Cousins Dominates for NFC in Game 3

Kirk Cousins threw three touchdowns to lead the NFC to a 20-12 victory in the final flag football game. His first touchdown was a 9-yard pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions. Later, Cousins connected with Kyle Juszczyk of the 49ers for a touchdown pass.

Justin Jefferson then caught a 1-point conversion after Cousins avoided Max Crosby with a spin move. He then threw to George Kittle for the day’s final touchdown to give the NFC the Pro Bowl Games victory.

Cousins was the lone NFC quarterback not to throw an interception on the day. He finished 15-19 for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Jefferson finished the game with five receptions for 90 yards for the winners.
