NBA Picks & Parlays Friday August 7th

NBA Picks & Parlays Friday August 7th

It goes without saying that this week has been full of upsets in the NBA Bubble, with the LA Lakers dropping games like they were hot potatoes. No one could have honestly expected the team to lose the way it has, especially not by 19 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Perhaps they’re feeling cocky because they’ve already clinched the division, something that was suggested shouldn’t happen a few days ago. It did, and it’s time to move on. There’s still a lot of action ahead, so let’s look at our NBA picks and parlays for August 7th.

NBA Picks & Parlays August 7th 2020

The Thunder Look To Continue Winning Streak

The Thunder will take on the Memphis Grizzlies tonight, and there’s little doubt that they’ll come into the game still high over beating the Lakers. The team is doing much better than anyone would have predicted ahead of the season and turned up the heat as the year advanced. Since mid-January, they only dropped six of 25 games and now have a renewed sense of worth that is motivating them to make a deep run as the season starts to wind down. Sixth in the Western and only 2 games behind third, the Thunder has a real shot.

The Grizzlies are eighth and nine games behind the Thunder. They will have to play without Jaren Jackson Jr. tonight, which isn’t going to help. Memphis has lost four straight already and is having a difficult time finding its footing. While the NBA reboot has seen several surprise upsets already, this won’t be one of them. The Thunder are 21-9 against the spread against a team with a losing record and 4-1 in the last five games. The Grizzlies, on the other hand, are 1-6 in their last seven games played against a team with a winning record, and 0-5 overall in their last five games.

This NBA game has the Thunder written all over it, with OC getting -5 (-110), so they are our first pick for 7th August. The Over/Under of 222 might be a little too ambitious, though, given the poor performance the Grizzlies have provided.

The Celtics Look To Advance Against The Raptors

Nothing makes a Friday night more exciting than NBA basketball and, if you toss in a major rivalry, things get sweeter. The Boston Celtics are meeting the Toronto Raptors on the court in a late-game today, and basketball fans should enjoy this contest. Boston has had a little bubble trouble, only finding wins in two of its four games. On the other hand, the Raptors are now 3-0 and everyone is starting to take notice. This is a second-seed vs. third-seed matchup that can’t be missed.

The Raptors don’t necessarily need to beat the Celtics to secure their position – they’re already 4.5 games ahead of their rivals. However, winning would put another nail in the coffin and offer a considerable amount of motivation. Toronto is 24-4 since January 15, including seven straight wins covering the pre- and post-coronavirus shutdown. Add one more win, and the Raptors, for what it’s worth, can’t lose their seed to anyone. It will also be an indication that last year wasn’t a fluke, with the team in contention for back-to-back championships.

The Celtics are at a disadvantage for having already dropped two games and might have to play without Tremont Waters. Kemba Walker is probable, but probable means he won’t be at 100%. This isn’t going to help Boston stage a comeback, and the team is going to have to dig in if they expect to tip the scales in its favor. Where the Celtics excel is on defense, especially against a transition offense, and Boston will have to put in everything they can tonight.

This should prove to be an interesting game, with both teams ready to make a statement. However, the Celtics, at +2.5 (-110), could surprise everyone – it wouldn’t be the first time. The Over/Under of 220.5 is conservative and should easily be blown out of the water.
