The Yankees Cleared of Cheating, but Still Face a Battle

The Yankees Cleared of Cheating, but Still Face a Battle

On Wednesday, the season continues in MLB, with a full slate of games on the schedule. Here’s a look at a few of the best matchups on the agenda today.

Mets Look For Sweep vs. Cards

The Mets and Cardinals play the final game of a three-game series this afternoon at Busch Stadium. New York has won three straight games overall and currently has the best record in baseball at 14-5. They also lead the NL East by 4.5 games over the Miami Marlins. St. Louis hopes to avoid a sweep after winning their last series against Cincinnati.

The Cardinals are one game behind the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central but have lost their last three games overall. St. Louis has one of the best offenses in the league this year but hasn’t lived up to that so far. They are batting just .226 as a team and have only 13 home runs, which is 22nd overall in the Majors. Carlos Carrasco (1-0, 1.47 ERA) will get the start for the Mets as the Cardinals send Steven Matz (2-1, 5.27 ERA) to the mound for his fourth start.

Carrasco will be tough to hit as the Mets get the win to sweep the series.

Yankees Hope to Stay Hot against Orioles

The New York Yankees are in the clear after being called out for Astros-like cheating, but still have work to do to clear their name. They have won four straight games and are coming off a sweep of the Guardians in their last series. Their bats have come alive in the previous two games, as they scored ten runs in the series finale against Cleveland and 12 runs last night in their victory in the series opener against Baltimore. New York had not scored more than six runs this season before the last two games.

Baltimore is at its usual position at the bottom of the AL East standings but is still just 5.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays, who lead the division. After taking two of three games from the Angels over the weekend, they’re hoping to do the same against the Yankees but need to win the final two games. That will be a challenge for the Orioles, as they send  Tyler Wells (0-2, 6.75 ERA) to the mound. Jordan Montgomery (0-1, 2.51  ERA) will make his fourth start for New York.

The Yankees will get the victory as their pitching continues to dominate.

Guardians Need a Victory In Los Angeles

The Cleveland Guardians look to avoid their fifth straight loss tonight against the Angels in the third of their four-game series. They were shut out in the opening game 3-0 on Monday and lost in yesterday’s game 4-1.

They have now fallen to 3-8 in their last 11 games but are just two games behind the Twins for first place in the AL Central Division. The Guardians are third in the majors in batting average at .256 and eighth in runs scored with 75 but have struggled during this losing streak, only scoring eight runs.

The Angels have been solid so far this season, although the bullpen has struggled with a 4.18 ERA. Los Angeles is getting a lot of offensive production and is fifth in the Majors in runs per game at 4.89. They have also won seven of their last 11 games overall.

The Angels will get the victory as the Cleveland offense continues to struggle.
