One Playoff Position Remains Open For The MLB Postseason

The MLB regular season winds down with just one playoff position yet to be decided in the National League. Monday Night Football also features a critical division matchup in the final game of Week 4. Here’s how the teams matchup for tonight’s games.

Phillies Open Series In Houston

The Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros begin a three-game series tonight at Minute Maid Park. The Phillies have a two-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers for the final playoff spot in the NL and only need one more victory to secure a postseason appearance. They took three of four games from the Washington Nationals in their last series after losing five straight.

Houston will finish with the best record in the American League and has already secured a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Astros dominated the league in the second half of the season. They most recently took two of three from the Tampa Bay Rays and are 15-5 in their last 20 games overall.

Aaron Nola (10-13, 3.36 ERA) will start tonight for Philadelphia, while the Astros send Lance McCullers Jr. (4-1, 2.38 ERA) to the mound for his eighth season start.

The Astros win for their third straight at home.

Arizona Visits Milwaukee For Three-Game Series

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers clash for three games to close out the regular season at American Family Field. The D’Backs haven’t won a series since they took three of four from the Brewers at the start of September and are 5-11 in their last 16 games. They’ll finish the season fourth in the AL West, just ahead of the Colorado Rockies in the standings.

The Brewers still have hopes of making the postseason and must sweep Arizona in this series to have a shot. They trail the Phillies by two games for the final Wild Card position with three games to go, meaning they must win all three to have any chance of making the postseason. The Phillies hold the tiebreaker over the Brewers and will make the playoffs if they end the season with identical records.

Tommy Henry (3-4, 5.98 ERA) for Arizona will take on Brandon Woodruff (13-4, 3.05 ERA) for the Brewers on the mound in tonight’s matchup.

The Brewers win to break their two-game losing streak.

Rams Battle Niners In NFC West Matchup

Monday Night Football in Week 4 of the NFL will feature the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers in an important division clash. Los Angeles is leading with a 2-1 record and could take a one-game lead over the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks with a win tonight.

The Rams have won two straight since their Week 1 loss to the Buffalo Bills and are coming off an impressive road win against the Arizona Cardinals. The defense was able to hold Kyler Murray and the Cards’ offense to four field goals, as they were solid in the red zone.

The Niners are 1-2 and currently at the bottom of the division standings after their disappointing 11-10 loss to the Denver Broncos last week on the road. They struggled to move the ball in the previous two games with Jimmy Garoppolo back at quarterback, and their three turnovers didn’t help their efforts.

They’re hoping he can shake off the rust tonight and help his team continue their recent domination over the Rams. The Niners have beaten them six straight times in the regular season.

The 49ers win a close game at home to force a four-way tie in the NFC West standings.
