Last night’s marathon MLB game between the San Diego Padres and the LA Dodgers invoked all kinds of reactions from baseball fans. There are undoubtedly plenty of people struggling to stay awake at work today after the 16-inning game. That will definitely be one for the record books, although it doesn’t quite reach the heights of the record-setting 33-inning game between two Triple-A teams, the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Rochester Red Wings, in 1981. However, it could lead to discussions – once again – about how to handle extra-inning games. Tonight’s lineup shouldn’t be as grueling, with the MLB odds a little easier to follow.
Giants and the Mets on the Field
The New York Mets (61-65) make their final appearance against the San Francisco Giants (82-44) today, more than likely glad to get this series over with. The Mets are 2-10 across their last 12 games, all of which have been played against the Dodgers and the Giants. In this current series, the Giants lead 2-0, and the Mets are looking at a shutout at home.
The Mets had a chance to win last night’s game before a pitcher swap slowed their momentum. The Giants are now 4-0 in their last four road games as a result and 23-8 overall on the road in their last 31. The Mets are 0-5 in their last five as hosts. Despite leading the league and the Mets, the Giants are only getting a slight advantage today at -125 on the moneyline, but it’s enough to make it an easy choice for bettors. The Over/Under is currently 9.5, with the possibility that San Fran takes control early. Backing the Over at -115 is a good pickup.

The Cincinnati Reds (69-59) have had a lot of success recently and look to keep it up tonight. They take on the Milwaukee Brewers (78-49), who have also developed into a better team in the second half of the season. The Brewers have been able to chip away at the Reds this week, and are now looking for a three-game sweep with tonight’s game. Cincinnati was 4-0 heading into this three-game series, but haven’t been able to keep their momentum going, dropping both of the first two games by scores of 7-4 and 4-1.
The Brewers have a 9.5-game lead over the Reds in the division, but Cincinnati will have an advantage tonight. The pitching rotation gets a lefty on the mound, and the Reds have shown to be strong against southpaws. Despite being the underdogs tonight, the Reds at +103 is a strong play. However, hits are likely going to be few and far between, and taking the Under (-115) on the Over/Under of 9 is the way to go.
Dodgers and Padres Back At It
The Padres (68-60) and the Dodgers (80-47) have to finish what they started. They’re both now fighting daily to stay alive in the National League West. The Padres are on the verge of not making it to the postseason, while the Dodgers are just 3.0 games out of first place and are almost guaranteed a wild card spot. San Diego has been on a slide lately that doesn’t seem to quit and has already lost the first two games in this three-game series against LA. It’s beginning to look like this will be a sweep.
The Dodgers are desperately clinging to the hopes of that wild card spot and will fight for it tonight. They’re getting -140 on the moneyline, which is a smart play for bettors. The Over/Under is at 8 for tonight and, after last night’s game, both teams are going to be a little short on energy. Take the Under at -120.
