Several games are scheduled for Monday in Major League Baseball as the division races start to heat up in the second half of the season. Here’s what’s expected in a few of the key matchups for today:

Mariners Travel To Face Yankees

The Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees meet for the first game of a three-game series in their first season matchup at Yankee Stadium. The Mariners started the current road trip in Houston, where they lost three of four games after sweeping the Texas Rangers at home. They’re second in the AL West, 12 games behind the Astros. 

The Yankees are now just one game shy of the 70-win mark but are a few percentage points behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for the best record in baseball. They most recently took three of four games from the Kansas City Royals at home. 

Marco Gonzales starts for Seattle and is 6-10 with a 3.66 ERA. The Yankees send Domingo German to the mound for his third start. He’s 0-1 with an 8.22 ERA in just 7.2 innings pitched. 

Seattle gets the win on the road as German continues to struggle.

Diamondbacks Hope to End Another Losing Streak In Cleveland

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Cleveland Guardians meet for three games starting Monday night. Arizona occupies last place in the NL West and is 23 games behind the Dodgers. They were held to just four runs in their recent series, where they were swept by the Atlanta Braves. 

Cleveland has been playing well since their last three-game losing streak and took their previous series on the road over the Tampa Bay Rays. They are one game behind the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central but just one game ahead of the Chicago White Sox, who have been making a recent move in the standings.

Arizona’s Zach Davies is 2-4 with a 3.94 ERA and will face Cal Quantrill for the Guardians, who is 7-5 with a 3.97 ERA this season. 

Cleveland gets the win to start their current homestand. 

White Sox Look To Extend Win Streak Versus Royals

The Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals play the first of a three-game series between the AL Central Rivals. The Sox are 10-5 in their last fifteen games and have moved to within two games of the division-leading Twins in the standings. However, they just took two of three at home against the Oakland A’s. 

The Royals are in last place in the division standings but only trail Minnesota by 13 games. They broke a five-game losing streak last night in the final game of their series against the Yankees. 

The Royals’ Brad Keller will make the start tonight and is 5-11 with a 4.18 ERA. Michael Kopech will be the starter for the Royals and has a 4-6 record and 3.16 ERA this season. 

Chicago gets a win tonight for their third straight victory.
