Braves, Brewers on Fire in MLB This Week

Eight games are on tap today in Major League Baseball, including a couple of key division matchups. There are several featured matchups worth a closer look today.

Braves Go For Sweep against Phillies

The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies play the final game of their series tonight in NL East action. The Braves won last night’s game 4-1 to improve their record to 21-5 in the month of June. They have made up ground on the New York Mets to sit just three games behind them for the division lead.

The Phillies have faltered recently against Atlanta and are now five games behind them in third place. Philadelphia is 3-6 in their last nine games after the end of their five-game winning streak. They won three of four games against the San Diego Padres on the road in their previous series and are hoping to salvage a victory tonight and avoid their third straight loss.

Ian Anderson gets the start for Atlanta and is 6-4 with a 4.60 ERA. He will go up against Aaron Nola for the Phillies, who is 4-5 with a 2.98 ERA this season.

The Phillies win at home to end their losing streak.

Brewers Seek Seventh Straight Over Pirates

The Milwaukee Brewers travel to Pittsburgh and face the Pirates to start a three-game series against their NL Central Division rivals. The home team has been third in the standings for most of the season and is 13 games behind the Brewers, who are in first place. Milwaukee has won four games in a row and completed a two-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays last night.

The Pirates were swept by the Rays before winning last night and avoiding another sweep by the Washington Nationals. They broke a five-game losing streak with the victory and are 4-6 in their previous ten games.

Adrian Houser will make his 15th start for Milwaukee and is 4-8 on the season with a 4.50 ERA. The Pirates send J.T. Brubaker to the hill tonight. He’s 1-7 and posts a 4.14 ERA in 2022.

The Brewers get the win for their sixth straight road victory.

Padres And Dodgers Battle For NL West Dominance

The San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers will begin a four-game series at Dodgers Stadium tonight. The Padres are 1.5 games behind the Dodgers in the division standings with a 46-31 mark and just split two games with the Arizona Diamondbacks at the start of the current road trip.

The Dodgers lost two of three games to the Colorado Rockies in their most recent series after being victorious in their series in Atlanta against the Braves. They hope two extend their slim lead over San Diego with a victory tonight.

Joe Musgrove is the ace of the Padres pitching staff and puts his 8-1 record on the line tonight. He is sixth in the Majors with a 2.12 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. He’ll be opposing Mitch White for the Dodgers, who is 1-1 with a 4.25 ERA.
