Both MLB and NFL Action Are On the Plate for Today

Today in MLB features several matchups, including a couple of key division rivalries. In the NFL, tonight is the Hall of Fame game in Canton, OH, which will kick off the preseason. Here’s what’s anticipated in tonight’s action.

Dodgers Go For Sweep In San Francisco

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants matchup for the final game of their four-game series tonight at Oracle Park. LA has extended its lead in the NL West to 11.5 games over the San Diego Padres and has been the hottest team in the league for more than a month. They have a 22-4 record in their last 26 games.

The Giants are third in the division and have fallen 19.5 games off the pace set by LA in the standings. Their only three victories in the last 13 games came against the Chicago Cubs in their previous series, where they took three of four games. The Dodgers shut them out in last night’s contest, 3-0.

The Dodgers win to pick up their eighth victory in the last nine games.

Braves Face Mets To Begin NL East Showdown

The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets meet today for the first of a five-game series to determine who the best team is in the NL East. Atlanta has closed the gap between them and the Mets to just 2.5 games and now has a chance to take over the division lead with a solid series against their rivals. They’ll be looking for their fifth straight win in tonight’s matchup.

The Mets have been able to hold off the surging Braves by winning eight of their last nine games overall. They lost the second game of their recent series against the Washington Nationals but rebounded to take a 9-5 victory in the rubber match on Wednesday.

The Mets win a close one to extend their home winning streak.

Jaguars Face Raiders in Hall of Fame Game

The 2022 NFL season begins on Thursday night, with the Jacksonville Jaguars facing the Las Vegas Raiders in the annual Hall of Fame Game. Both teams start 2022 with new head coaches as Doug Peterson makes his debut with the Jags and Josh McDaniel takes the helm for the Raiders.

The reserves for both teams will be in the spotlight tonight, as QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne will sit out for this game for the Jaguars. Additionally, the Raiders have made improvements to their offense, acquiring Davante Adams from the Packers to compliment QB Derek Carr this season. However, backup QB Nick Mullens will make the start under center for the Raiders tonight.

The Raiders win over a Jags team that isn’t much improved over last season.
