ALDS To Try To Find A Winner After Last Night’s Rain-out

ALDS To Try To Find A Winner After Last Night’s Rain-out

The MLB postseason continues Tuesday afternoon with Game 5 of the ALDS, which was rained out yesterday. Two playoff underdogs will also be featured in Game 1 of the NLCS, which begins tonight. Here’s a look at what’s anticipated for both matchups.

Cleveland Takes On New York In Series Finale

The Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees will try again to play Game 5 of the ALDS at Yankee Stadium after last night’s game was rained out. Cleveland had won two straight games to take a 2-1 series lead before New York took the last game 4-2. Now they must travel back to Yankee Stadium after failing to wrap up the series at home.

The Guardians are hitting just .233 in the postseason and have the lowest slugging percentage of all teams remaining in the playoffs. However, pitching is how Cleveland has advanced this far in the postseason. Their bullpen holds a 0.70 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 25.2 postseason innings.

New York’s pitching hasn’t been as dominant so far this postseason, with Gerrit Cole the only pitcher to record a win in the series. Their team ERA is 3.19 after four games, with 38 strikeouts and eight walks. They also have momentum in the series, returning home after taking Game 4 on the road on Sunday.

The Yankees are hitting just .177 in the series and have been led by Harrison Bader, who has three homers and four RBIs. Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton have three RBIs each, and Aaron Judge is hitting .125 with one homer and two RBIs.

Cleveland starts Aaron Civale in Game 5. He was 5-6 with a 4.92 ERA in the regular season, while Jameson Taillon makes his first postseason start for New York after going 14-5 with a 3.91 ERA before the playoffs.

New York wins to advance to the ALCS.

Phillies and Padres Meet For NLCS

The Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres meet for Game 1 of the NLCS from Petco Park on Tuesday night. After finishing third in the NL East, 14 games behind the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets, the Phillies got hot at the perfect time. They proceeded to sweep the NL Central champion St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card round and then take three of four from the defending champion Braves to win the NLDS.

The Phillies are hitting .237 in the playoffs. DH Bryce Harper leads them with ten hits, including three home runs and six RBIs. Brandon Marsh has a homer and four RBIs this postseason, and Jan Segura is hitting .389 with two doubles and three RBIs for Philadelphia.

The Padres finished 22 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West standings. They took two of three on the road from the Mets to win their NL Wild Card series. After, they won three straight against the Dodgers after losing Game 1 of the NLDS. They were big underdogs in both series so far in the playoffs but are slight favorites to represent the NL in the World Series.

Austin Nola leads Padres hitters in the playoffs with a .381 average. Manny Machado has eight hits and five RBIs, and Trent Grisham has three homers and a .519 on-base percentage to lead them in the postseason.

Zach Wheeler will start the game for the Phillies tonight. He’s 0-1 with a 2.19 ERA in his two starts this postseason. Yu Darvish will go for his third win in these playoffs. He has an ERA of 3.00 in 12 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts for San Diego.
