Welcome to Rumor Has It. Our weekly post that focuses on the various sports rumors driving fans crazy around the world.

The Never-ending (And Troubling) Antonio Brown Saga

Where do we start?

First, Cryogate. Then Helmetate. Then his beef with Raiders GM Mike Mayock. The fines and, of course, #releaseme via AB’s Instagram page.

The NFL story that never ends now seems to have a new beginning. Basically, right after Brown was cut by the Raiders, he agreed to sign with the Patriots for a one-year deal worth as much as $15 million (bonuses).

But now there is a new twist. Brown has been accused of raping the woman who worked as his trainer, according to a federal lawsuit filed Tuesday in the Southern District of Florida.

Brown and his lawyer quickly went on the offensive once the news dropped, claiming the accuser is just trying to extort him.

The NFL is now investigating the matter, and the Pats aren’t answering questions about it. AB did attend practice today, for what it is worth.

So what did Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger have to say about his former teammate? Big Ben was interviewed after the Steelers lost to the Patriots on Sunday, and this is what he had to say about Brown:

Reporter: “Ben, your thoughts on Antonio Brown joining [the Patriots] now?”
Roethlisberger: “Whatever.”

Is Rob Gronkowski coming back?

So, yes, the Patriots acquired Brown. But they might not be done yet. On Tuesday, former Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski dropped a simple tweet that sent the Internet on fire.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the Pats were trading wide receiver Demaryius Thomas to the New York Jets. The move itself vacates a roster spot – so of course, less than an hour after Schefter tweeted, Gronk tweets out the eyes emoji.

We still have no clue what Gronk was talking about, could be another CBD-related tweet for all purposes, but where there is smoke, there might be fire. Stay tuned!

Why was Dave Dombroski fired by the Boston Red Sox?

Dombroski built a winner in Boston, yet was let go, just eleven months after delivering a World Series title. His late-night firing on Sunday has raised a ton of questions, and understandably so.

So, why was he let go? All signs point to Red Sox owner John Henry. Henry, is process and results oriented. Dombrowski, on the other hand, is more of a feel guy, and pretty much the opposite.

We are sure more will come out in the near future, but this definitely was a shocker.

Is Emerson on his way to Barcelona?

For now, Betis Vice-president José Miguel López Catalán has denied rumors that suggest Emerson could join Barcelona to cover for an injured Semedo.

But, he has not rejected the possibility of a future transfer, which is what is more likely in this situation.

“I won’t say what could happen in the future but we’ll have to see what is good for Betis,” he explained.
