Will Simmons End Up In Boston?

Will Simmons End Up In Boston?

The Boston Celtics have shown an interest in Ben Simmons, the disgruntled Philadelphia 76ers star. It appears that it is perfect timing, especially for the Celtics. They have an awful 4-6 record to kick off the season, which suggests that major adjustments are needed before everything falls apart. This could result in Simmons joining the club, with two possible scenarios playing out. Even though Simmons has agreed to seek “professional help,” his days in Philly may be numbered.

Jaylen Brown Could Be Swapped for Ben Simmons

Daryl Morey, the 76ers’ president of basketball operations, made it clear that he would only entertain an offer for Simmons if it included an All-Star caliber athlete. He doesn’t care that Simmons’ stock has plummeted because of his woes. He knows Simmons remains an exceptional player and wants him to get a player of his caliber in return. Brown comes in at this point. This could make it possible to swap straight up, which could prove beneficial to both parties.

The Simmons saga will end for the 76ers. Despite their 8-3 record in the league, it’s obvious that they will be better with another star. Simmons could be the one to help Jayson Tatum get through his struggles. Simmons’s ability to cut and playmaking makes him an excellent complement to Tatum’s offensive playstyle. Brown has become too similar to Tatum and they don’t get along well. Brown can work with Joel Embiid to continue developing his own game. He’s an All-Star center and is used to jumping shooters as well as slashers. Embiid & Brown have the potential for being a formidable duo for many years to come.

Simmons’ defensive toughness will also be fully supported by Simmons’ Celtics teammates. If the deal goes through, Simmons could team up alongside fellow defensive stalwarts Marcus Smart or Al Horford. This could help save the Celtics season. The 76ers will not be completely without defense. Brown is becoming a skilled defender. Additionally, they have Matisse Thibulle and Danny Green, who are extremely intelligent defensive players.

Brown, Nesmith for Simmons and a 2023 First Round Pick

This is an extended Simmons-Brown deal with the additions to some role players, picks and other details. This is the only possible trade package, as many players from both teams are not able to be traded. The offseason signings of players cannot be traded until mid-December and mid-January. The above trade package is available if both parties are desperate to move the trigger within the next few hours.

The package is also good for anyone who does pull the trigger. Both the Celtics and Philly are playoff contenders. So, a star in exchange for a superstar trade is a significant change. Any package that contains more core players than this (which can mean a package that is not in the best interest of both sides) can destroy all of the team chemistry they have built over time.

Other Teams Show Interest

Simmons’ latest twist is Philadelphia’s decision to revive the preseason fines he received for not attending training camp or taking part in exhibition action. Simmons has now changed his stance on meeting with the team doctor, but there is still a chance the three-time All-Star and mystery man will be dealt.

Jake Fischer notes that Ben Simmons trade talks remain open to nine parties. The 76ers won’t consider including someone like Seth Curry or Georges Niang as a trade. This is also true if Marcus Smart, who has been an integral part of the team’s foundation, is traded by the Celtics. However, there are rumors that Simmons, if he plans on staying in the NBA, might end up with one of these teams:
