Super Bowl LVII Is Almost Here

The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs are ready for battle on Sunday when they face off in Super Bowl LVII. Both teams have already landed in Glendale, AZ, for the Big Game, and the world will soon stop turning for a few hours as everyone tunes in.

Ready For Battle

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was recognized this Thursday with his second NFL MVP award. Considered the great heir to the recently retired Tom Brady, Mahomes was the favorite to receive the award for a season in which he broke the record for yards in a year, with a total of 5,614, which Drew Brees had until now.

The Chiefs arrive as the best offense of the 2022 season with 7,031 yards and a total of 596 points. In addition, Mahomes is at the top of his game and positioned himself as the season’s leading QB with 5,250 passing yards and 41 touchdowns.

Travis Kelce, tight end for the Chiefs, praised Mahomes on Thursday for his ability to read the game and have “always ready three or four plays.” This is something that, in his opinion, contributed to the award, and will also be a big part of the Chiefs’ success.

This season, the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts closed the season as the fourth-best QB in the entire NFL. In addition, Philly was held as the second-best defensive of the season, so a game full of crushing stops is expected.

The Eagles will play their fourth Super Bowl in their history. The main weapon they have to stop Mahomes is their dominant defense, which has 78 sacks this season.

Making NFL History

The Chiefs and Eagles have already made Super Bowl history, even before they take the field. With 14 wins each in the regular season, they topped the conference standings. This year is only the sixth season when teams with the best regular season records meet for the Big Game.

Throughout the competition, the Chiefs and Eagles were the two teams that were in control, without any other team challenging them. The only other time two Super Bowl teams had this level of success was in 2004 between the Eagles and the New England Patriots, 1991 between the Buffalo Bills and the then-Washington Redskins and back in 1966, between the Chiefs and the Green Bay Packers.

59% of the bets are supporting the Eagles, and 55% the over for the Super Bowl. The public is very divided, and that is good. However, what is strange is that, although Eagles at -1.5 is the crowd favorite, the Chiefs moneyline is the favorite over Eagles moneyline, with 51% of the bets.

The over has managed to top 50 points after opening at 49.5. Right now, you find it at 50.5 on some books. It’s not a very drastic change, and it won’t likely move much between now and Sunday.

The American Gaming Association (AGA) estimates that 50.4 million people will bet $16 billion on the Super Bowl. If that holds, the number of people who bet money in the 2022 Super Bowl in which the Los Angeles Rams beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 will be exceeded by 61%.

This is a tough game to call – not like some of the previous Super Bowl blowouts fans and bettors have seen. Even the sportsbooks are still having difficulty. However, the Eagles are going to keep the pressure on Mahomes in order to take the championship.
