Tonight Starts A Great Weekend to Be a Sports Fan

Some exciting matchups are scheduled in Major League Baseball on Friday, with less than two weeks remaining in the regular season. This weekend also has some great NFL action in store. Here’s a look at a few of the upcoming matchups.

Braves Look To End Losing Streak In Philadelphia

The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies play the second of their four-game series tonight at Citizens Bank Park. Atlanta has already clinched a playoff berth and is 10.5 games ahead of the San Diego Padres, who are also battling for the final NL playoff position. The Braves still have a chance to win the NL East, trailing the first-place Mets by 1.5 games.

The Phillies are third in the NL East, with 12 games separating them from the division leader. They still have a good shot at making the postseason and are a half-game behind the Padres and 2.5 games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers with 13 games to play on the schedule. They have won three straight since their five-game losing streak.

Jake Odorizzi (5-5, 4.04 ERA) takes the mound for the Braves and will go up against the Phillies’ Aaron Nola (9-12, 3.38 ERA) in Game 2 tonight.

The Phillies win to extend their streak to three games.

Cardinals Open Three-Game Series In Los Angeles

The St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers meet for a weekend series at Dodger Stadium starting tonight. The Cardinals hope to clinch the NL Central division soon and lead the second-place Milwaukee Brewers by 7.5 games in the standings.

However, they recently lost two of three to the Padres and have been shut out in three of the last four games. Unless their bats wake up soon, they won’t have a chance of beating baseball’s best team at their home field.

The Dodgers will likely end the season with the best record in baseball and will clinch home-field advantage in the next few games. They’re 21 games ahead of the Padres and haven’t slowed down much since becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs. They have lost two of the last three games but are 10-3 in their previous 13 contests.

Jose Quintana (5-6, 3.16 ERA) will start tonight for St. Louis, while Andrew Heaney (3-2, 2.66 ERA) takes the mound for Los Angeles.

The Dodgers win for their third straight against the Cardinals.

Packers Look For Second Win In Tampa

The Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers meet on Sunday afternoon in what could be the final matchup between Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. The two have gone head-to-head four times, with Brady winning three matchups. Green Bay was impressive in their Week 1 win against the Chicago Bears but was embarrassed on the road against the Vikings last week, losing 27-10.

Tampa is leading the NFC South and prepares for its home opener after being dominant on defense in their first two games away from home. They won at New Orleans 20-10 against the Saints in Week 1 and held the Dallas Cowboys to three points last week as they struggled without starting QB Dak Prescott.

Three Bucs receivers are questionable for Sunday’s game with injuries, while two more will be out of the lineup. This includes Mike Evans, who was suspended for fighting in last week’s game.

Tampa wins as their defense continues to play well.
