The Heat Find Their Rhythm To Keep the NBA Finals Interesting

The Miami Heat, facing a disappointing 2-0 deficit in the NBA Finals and playing in a stadium against them, made the bold decision to stick to their tried and tested game plan from their previous playoff games. It worked.

Heat Back On The Board

In Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night, the Heat managed to secure a tie after a challenging game against the Nuggets, who were led by Nikola Jokic’s incredible 41-point performance. While Gabe Vincent led the attack for the Heat with 23 points, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo also contributed significantly, each scoring 21 points. The game ended with a close score of 111-108 in favor of the Heat.

At one point, they trailed by a disappointing 15 points, but they still persisted until the final quarter, where they trailed by eight. It seemed that defeat was inevitable. However, Denver has proven its ability by maintaining an undefeated record of 11-0 in double-digit playoff leads and an impressive overall season record of 37-1 when leading by eight or more points. This also includes the fourth trimester.

Denver couldn’t stand the heat. During the 3:17 of the fourth quarter, their opponents scored 17 points to take the lead and hold it until the end, even extending it to a margin of 12 points. However, the advantage was not certain, as their advantage was almost erased by the other team. In the end, Jamal Murray attempted a 3-point shot, but couldn’t send the game into overtime.

The Heat got off to a good start, but then fell behind by as many as 15 points against the Nuggets. Despite Max Strus’ 14 points and Duncan Robinson’s 10 points in the fourth quarter, they couldn’t catch up. Jokic’s impressive performance included making 16 of 28 shots, with his last successful 4-foot shot that cut the Nuggets’ deficit to just three points with just 36 seconds left in the game.

Although Butler failed to make a 3-point shot, Murray also missed a 3-point shot at the buzzer, which would have tied the game.

The Nuggets Take A Hit

The Nuggets experienced their first home loss since March 30. It was a devastating blow for a team that has had great success on its own court.

Strus, who had a poor performance in Game 1, turned it around by scoring four successful 3-point points during the first quarter of Game 2. Miami’s Butler came on with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter, helping Miami take a solid 21-10 lead and tie its second-largest lead. Up to this point, every team Denver has faced has been defeated.

A sweep allowed the Nuggets to transform a double-digit deficit into a lead of the same size by outscoring Miami 32-11 by a nine-minute period. At the start of the second quarter, Denver took advantage of a 70-second window to go ahead with four 3s. However, Miami stood firm against any opposition.

This marked the Heat’s 44th straight win this season, all of which were won by a margin of five points or less. However, none of the previous victories can live up to the magnitude of this one.

The Heat earned their 13th playoff win, surpassing the 1999 New York Knicks’ record for most wins by an 8th-seeded team.

Tyler Herro, the injured Heat guard, is still struggling to recover from a broken hand. Herro suffered the injury in the first half of Game 1 of Round 1 against Milwaukee. It’s unclear if he’ll be able to participate in Game 3 on June 7.
