I’m going to write a daily piece that highlights my favorite daily picks on the sports slate, so here they are for Feb 28.
Yesterday was another good day, as we finished 2-1. While every day is a new opportunity and I don’t want to get sucked into the past, I think it’s worth reviewing things each day. This will help us get better as we move forward. So, here goes:
– Wisconsin +6.5 (won) – They won straight up!
– Oregon -10 (won) – This one played out exactly as I imagined, a nice second half blowout.
– Knicks-Sixers under 211 (loss) – The first half looked great, then shi$ hit the fan.
Now, onto today’s card. We have a 50-game college basketball card and a four-game NBA card.
We did the research for you so, so here are our three favorite bets for today:
Vik’s Picks Feb 28
Davidson +11 at Dayton
Up first for our picks for Feb 28 is this A-10 battle should be a fun one. Dayton has been great, and I love Obi Toppin, but I like the spot here for Davidson. The Ken Pom metrics for them are pretty solid, especially when it comes to the offensive side of the basketball. They are now ranked in the top-40 in Effective FG%, 3-Point %, Assist to TO ratio, and FT %.
Davidson has been playing good NCAA basketball the last two weeks and they are well-coached. I also like the fact that Davidson went to Auburn and Marquette and hung around, eventually losing both games by 10-points each.
Meanwhile, while Dayton has been winning, they’ve been on the verge of a loss. Good teams pull out close games, and that is what they’ve done, but I just feel a loss coming. Also, when it comes to covering, they are just 14-14 ATS this season and have failed to cover six of their last eight games. These two teams are going in a little bit of an opposite direction.
The public sees a No. 4 Dayton team that is rolling, but I like the dog tonight. The sharps also seem to be on the same side, as this spread has dropped from an opening number of Dayton -11.5. I would not be surprised to see this hit 10 by tip-off tonight.
Kings +4 at Grizzlies
Love Sacramento in this spot tonight, as I see them as a live dog. Since Jaren Jackson, Jr. went down for Memphis, they have been in a free fall. They don’t shoot or hit as many 3’s without him.
Ja Morant also might be hitting the rookie wall a little bit. And, the Grizzlies depth is being tested with the JJJ and Brandon Clarke injuries.
The Kings have also been playing a little better, as they’ve gone 6-4 over their last ten outings. They also seem to do well in the back end of back-to-backs (similar to our Boston winner earlier this week), as they are 6-2 ATs in that situation.
There is also a reverse line movement on the Kings tonight. While 55% of the public likes Memphis, the spread has dropped from Grizz -4.5 to 4/ 3.5 in most books.
All the more reason to like Sacramento tonight. If you are feeling lucky, they might be worth a sprinkle on the moneyline.
Nuggets at Clippers -6.5
This is a game I had circled for tonight in the NBA. The Clippers are finally defending again, and this is the perfect team to matchup against for them.
The way to beat the Clippers is to shoot the 3-ball well. I don’t see the Nuggets making it rain from 3. The Clippers defend the screen and roll well and will jump Jokic/ Murray picks. LAC defends the rim and mid-range great, so unless someone like Gary Harris goes off, I’m not seeing it happen for the Nuggets.
While the public is on the Nuggets, this line has gone up to LAC -6.5 from 6 in most books, indicating some reverse line movement on the Clippers. I also lean the under, but like the Clippers side a little bit more for today’s picks of the day.
Well, that is all folks for our picks for Feb 28. Good luck on today’s wagers!
